The Good:

* Hot guy on the cover - yes, I'm shallow....

* Perfect wintery setting

* This novella is the perfect sort of read for those cold winter nights. If it doesn't warm your heart and curl your toes - something is wrong.

* I love the Jack Frost lore created by Wendy Sparrow. It's an interesting take on an old tale. It also reminds me a bit of the Hades and Persephone myth. The descriptions of the winter world were vivid and gorgeous; scenes in that world were my favorite parts of the novella.

* Jack is definitely a swoon worthy leading man. His feelings for Kate were tangible. What woman doesn't want to be adored like this?

* I am a big fan of stories that draw heavily upon the theme of fate. This one certainly delivers on that front.

The Bad:

* Again, the length. What's with these intriguing stories being so short? I can only hope that Sparrow will give us more of this world and characters in a longer format some day.

* There were some moments when I wanted to smack Kate. I understood why she was so scared and hesitant of a relationship, but seven year? Seriously?

The Naughty:

* On the hotness scale, this one comes in at a 6. There is a lot of alluding to some pretty intense frozen sex in a majority of the novel, but we really only get ONE scene. The scene was the perfect blend of information and leaving some elements to the imagination. I found it to be deliciously hot, but some readers might prefer more description.

Favorite Quote:

"You are wearing a lot more clothes." Her fingers went to the buttons on his shirt, but he grabbed her hands.

"Magic," he said with a laughed breath. A moment later, his bare skin was against hers.

"You'll have to teach me how to do that."

Overall Verdict:

After falling through the ice one cold day, Kate is saved by a mysterious man named Jack and ends up marrying him. Come to find out she's committed herself to the king of winter himself. Now Kate has cold feet about their life together…and cold everything else.

She doesn't think Jack will miss her if she packs up and runs away to Colorado. After all, she's been in living in sunny Florida for seven years, and he hasn't managed to come see her. But Jack has one last chance of convincing his runaway bride to come back to him, and he won't give up until he breaks through the ice that's frosted her heart.

  1. Yeah, between the hottie on the cover and the fact he's got some chick fooled into marrying him and all that comes after, I'm totally intrigued. I am always anxious to know what the girl is going to do after learning of being duped. It's exciting to read about.
Great review. Only makes me want it more.

  2. This does sound really good. I am really interested in reading this book, Jack does sound hot, even though he is the king of winter :) I am like you though and often left wishing good stories were longer these days. Many novellas that I read I would be so happy to have them last another 100 pages or more!.
    Thanks for the great review.
