My Thoughts:
When I could form coherent thought again, I was once again wow'ed by Laura Kaye's skill and craftsmanship (crafstwomanship?) of story-telling. These shorter, novella type stories would have to be harder to write than a full length novel, I assume - You have to pack a small yet mighty punch, and In The Service Of The King definitely brings it!

In 90 short pages, we get introduced to a new world of vampires, complete with an ages old enemy, the Soul Eaters, and rituals and traditions, like the Proffered.

And can we talk bout Kael? Drool worthy! Tormented, powerful and edgy, Kael is one of the Warrior Kings and weighted down by his obligations, which definitely includes the Proffering, which is a ritual where willing human virgins offer their blood (and maidenheads) to keep him strong...

Virgins like Shalya, who is smart, determined and has a self awareness most heroines don't. She has a score to settle with the  Soul Eaters. The night of the Proffering goes heart-breakingly awry for her, only to be pulled back in by mystical and sexy forces, but this time the terms are her own.

Dark Horse Hottie: Scene stealing Liam totally melts my butter. And other things.

Now, do I really have to tell you this book is H.O.T.? Look at the cover! It's a spine tingling, intense read and the only thing negative I can honestly say about it was it was too short, and I want more, because I'm a total greedy wench.

Summary:
Kael, Warrior King of the Vampires, loathes the Night of the Proffering. He needs the blood of either his mate or a human virgin to maintain his strength, but hasn't enjoyed the ritual since he lost his mate centuries ago. Kael doesn't want a new companion, yet his resolve is tested when he lays eyes on his new offering, Shayla McKinnon. He is drawn to Shayla's beauty and poise...and the submission she offers. She is eager to give him anything he wishes, including her innocence, to please him. Will Kael give in to their overwhelming desire--even if it means risking Shayla's life?
