One of my favorite authors, Laura Kaye, stops by the Nest! She was also my guinea pig as I've never interviewed an author before, particularly one of my favorites, which was a little intimidating. So I channeled my inner James Lipton, and asked her a few questions.
(Just picture me pensively stroking a fake beard and trying to look serious;)

1. What is your favorite word?
Awesome
2. What is your least favorite word?
Can’t.
3. What turns you on?
Passion and positivity
4. What turns you off?
Dishonesty and selfishness
5. What sound or noise do you love?
Laughter
6. What sound or noise do you hate?
Whining and complaining
7. What is your favorite curse word?
Fuck.
8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Marine biologist
9. What profession would you not like to do?
Bill collector
10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
“I never had any doubt.”
11. Describe Kael and Shayla, in 5 words (each).
Kael: Leader, Commanding, Loyal, Passionate, Powerful
Shayla: Smart, Determined, Fearless, Devoted, Inquisitive
12. Where did you get the idea for this story?
This story came to me out of the blue. I was driving home
from an urgent care center late one night, feeling crappy with bronchitis, but
in the lull of driving, the story started coming to me. By the time I got home,
it was so alive in my mind I had to start writing, and when I went to bed at 3
a.m. that night, I had about 20 pages written.
13. What is your favorite character, or type of character,
to write?
My favorite type of character to write is the tortured,
tormented hero. Yum-my. I most enjoy writing heroes in general…
14. What music inspired you or do you feel fits in with In the Service of the King?
This story came out so fast, I didn’t have time to put
together my normal inspirational playlist. However, I did put together a few
songs that really captured the feel of this story, and probably THE best one
for that is The Fray’s Say When.
15. Where do you find inspiration for the supernatural in
the everyday, “natural” world?
I grew up in a family that believed in the supernatural. A
number of my family members’ houses were haunted, and it was just accepted. So
I’ve always been open to the idea that things beyond what we can see are at
work in the world around us. I’ve also always been really influenced by the
idea that humans only use about 10% of our brain, which makes me wonder what we
might be capable of doing—or perceiving—with the other 90%.
16. What’s your favorite bird?
The male cardinal.
Thanks for hosting me here today! I had fun with these
questions!

I love the quick answer interview. You can really learn a lot about a person in very few words. I cannot stand whining either. It's one of the things I wouldn't tolerate from my son as they were growing up. Thanks for the fun HOP :)
