My Thoughts:
NGH. That was my first, anticipatory thought. (For those of you wondering what in the blue perfect hell that means/stands for, it's basically a noise of feminine approval and lust.) Anything Laura Kaye writes is hot and I totally fell in love with her vampires in In The Service of the King. Her men are men without being man children. (And that, kittens, is why it's fiction!)
Nikolai is no different - A total Alpha male with a heart breaking dose of pain and anger over the death of his kid brothers. He has abandoned any pretext of being a king to his people and instead has recklessly thrown himself fang first into their war with the evil Soul Eaters.
Enter Kate. She's beautiful, headstrong, and not about to toe the line of the Proffered, even if her family holds a high seat in their society. She's run away to Russia to escape the pressure and on a restless midnight stroll finds a very large, very injured Nikolai. She gives him her blood and even defends him in his weakened state with his own gun. That's no shrinking violet, that is the making of a badass heroine! She needs every bit of that baddassadry too, because Nikolai is intent on pushing her away, despite the biological and primal signs screaming at them to lock themselves in a room for the next century.
Dark Horse Hottie: Mikhail. What is it with me and vampire seconds? Who cares. If it's wrong, I don't wanna be right!
Summary:

Grieving over the deaths of his brothers, Vampire Warrior King Nikolai Vasilyev has thrown himself into battling his enemies, focused only on vengeance. Until the attack that brought him to Kate. Their sexual attraction explodes into a night of uncontrolled passion—a night that marks them as mates. Is their connection strong enough to convince them to embrace a destiny neither of them was expecting?
