She was sleeping in his arms. Had been for hours, easy as could be. Her face, in repose, was sweet, youthful, innocent, and utterly beautiful to him. He traced a finger down her cheek, studying the subtle, soft planes, wondering at what made beauty.

"Off so soon, pet? The evening is young" He looked at me with a glint in his eye and a devilish curl to his lips. "Maybe for you, but I'm going home. Go find yourself a nice neck to suck on."

~Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost, pg 101

That’s why this is a story I’m not sure I want to teach my own [son] Jacob. Beneath its surface of filial forgiveness is a deplorable moral: don’t bother treating loved ones right, since the suckers will always forgive you.

Book Review: Halfway to the Grave

Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress #1)
Narrated By: Tavia Gilbert
Published By: Blackstone Audiobooks
Publication Date: November 2010
Audio Length: 11 hours, 17 minutes
Source: Library
Audience: Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy

On the Story & Writing:

Yes, I know I am pretty late in jumping on the Night Huntress train, but I am so glad I finally made it - better late than never. I was so hesitate to pick these books up because out of all the Dark Larks I am probably the one who is the most prudish. I suppose that's not really the right way to describe it. I am the one who doesn't like overly graphic sexual situations in a book at the sake of strong characters and a captivating plot. I don't mind reading great books that have romantic elements, but I hate romances that focus only on the love and sexual moments. My own form of personal hell would be to only be allowed to read bodice rippers. Now, that I have my rambling out of the way, I just need to say the this book (and I would suspect the rest of the series) is NOT one of those romance books I loathe. Jeaniene Frost is an excellent writer who has created a universe I enjoy spending time in and characters that are real and enjoyable.

Lauren offered a nervous smile, but he responded with a hardened furrow of his brow so unfriendly that she half expected the ominous looking man to growl. A heavy awkwardness filled the elevator, and as usual, Lauren couldn't help herself, she had to speak. "So, um, are you new to the building?"

There was that sly curl to his lips again when he faced me. His feet were planted apart and his hips tilted slightly forward. Pale hair hugged his head in tight waves. Under the pinholes of light around him, his skin positively glowed. "My name is Bones."
