My
Review
This is the first time I have read any of Burton’s work
although she comes highly recommended. I was tempted by the picture on the
cover and the old adage of ‘don’t judge a book by its’ cover’ never proved
truer.
I give the book a birdie just for the cover art. But once
you get past the eyepopping wonderfulness of that, there is really very little
substance. The plot is hackneyed and trite. Boy meets girl. They have lots of
sex. There is the welcoming into the family she never had. And more sex. And a
misunderstanding. And more sex. And the apology. And more sex. And the happy
ever after. And more sex.
I thought the protagonists were two dimensional and felt no
connection to the (American) football world. This may be different for readers
based in the USA, to be fair.
Despite all this, the book gets another birdie for the sex.
If that’s what you buy these sorts of books for, then you won’t be disappointed.
Mick Riley is a ‘talker’ and there is enough variety within the various
couplings to keep you satisfied.

I read this one a couple months back and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I'm normally not a fan of contemporary romance but I liked Burton's writing style. Great review :)

ReplyDeleteJust goes to show that writing is art- what appeals to one person may not appeal to others in the same way. All in the eye of the beholder- I hope authors remember this.
