Reading Lark After Dark would like to welcome author, Lillie Spencer, to the Dark Nest today. She was kind enough to stop by to answer some of our questions and to offer up a giveaway for our readers. The giveaway details are at the end of this post.
After Dark: When and why did you begin writing?
Lillie: My mom just gave me a velvet covered journal I'd filled with poetry and short stories in the first grade, so I guess I've been writing since I learned how to write. I'd written countless stories before I worked up the courage to submit one.
After Dark: What inspired this story?
Lillie: I was actually sketching out a different story altogether when this idea popped into my head out of nowhere and wouldn't let go until I was finished writing it. I wish I could tell you where it came from, but the truth is I have no idea.
After Dark: Do you have a favorite character?
Lillie: Christian, definitely. He is Michael and Nikki's best friend. He's sexy, sarcastic, funny as hell and the most loyal person you'd ever want to meet. The fact that he's a bad boy and a criminal is almost secondary.
Lillie: Although I'm hesitant to admit it, I'm probably the most like Michael. He's been hurt a lot in his life, suffered great loss, and it's made him guarded and distrustful of all those outside of his inner circle. But when it comes to the people he does trust and love, he'd die for them. Or kill for them. ;)
After Dark: Which book(s) have most influenced your life and/or writing career?
Lillie: I love Anne Rice. I could not get enough of The Vampire Chronicles growing up. It wasn't just the hot vampires, either. It was the way she created the scenery in your mind, drew you in. I wanted to move to New Orleans just to be in that world.
After Dark: Why did you choose to write in this genre?
Lillie: I'm a sucker for romance, but I love a good mystery too. I wanted to write a book that had the best of both worlds. It was so much fun weaving the romance and mystery aspects of this story together.
After Dark: Can you share a little bit about your next project with us?
After Dark: Who is your dream book boyfriend?
Lillie: Oh goodness, that's a hard one. Darry from The Outsiders, maybe? I loved how he was equal parts bad boy greaser and caretaker for his brother and the rest of their gang.
Great interview. I've not heard of Lillie Spencer or her books before so I now have another new author to add to my list of "Hey, check these out!" Nice to meet you, Lillie.
ReplyDeleteI envy people that just start writing. I tried to write some when I was in middle school. It didn't turn out well, LOL.
Thanks for stopping by, Lisa. Glad to see you enjoyed our chat with Lillie.
